Souad Abderrahim has made history by becoming the first female mayor of Tunis.
The 54-year-old pharmacist, women’s right advocate and former lawmaker according to NBC News, is a member of the moderate Islamic Party in Tunisia whose aim is to separate politics from religion.
She dedicated her win to women saying:
I dedicate this win to all Tunisians and all women who have struggled to be in such senior positions.
